Members please register by Monday, November 14, 2016, to receive a free t-shirt.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report, Suicide Rates by Occupational Groups – 17 States, 2012, “suicide is the 10th leading reported cause of death for persons aged greater than 16 years.” Please join your fellow Arizona Women Lawyers Association members and walk to raise awareness (and hopefully, some funding) for suicide prevention on December 11, 2016 at Steele Indian School Park in Phoenix, Arizona.
To thank you for your support of suicide prevention, the Maricopa Chapter of AWLA will purchase an AWLA dry fit shirt for you. Once the AWLA member registers to join the AWLA, the team captain will be notified and will process an order for the member’s complimentary AWLA t-shirt. However, you will also be provided with a link to order additional shirts for family and friends joining you on this important walk.

Through walks such as the December Phoenix walk, AFSP has raised over $1M for a research grant program; education programs, such as More Than Sad that “teaches educators to recognize signs of mental health distress in students and refers them for help;” advocacy regarding state, local, and federal policy; loss and bereavement programs, such as specially trained AFSP suicide loss survivor volunteers who “meet in person, by phone, or video chat with newly bereaved survivors and their families to provide support and resources;” and an interactive screening program that “allow people to anonymously communicate with a counsel about mental health resources…and empowers them to take that critical first step towards getting treatment.”
To register for the December 11 walk and join the AWLA team, please follow these instructions:
1) go to AFSP website for walk registration: https://afsp.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=register.start&eventID=3989
2) for Participant Type, choose option 1 – Walker or Team Captain;
3) for Role, choose Join a Team;
4) for Team, choose search, then find “Arizona Women Lawyer Association” and,
5) complete the registration process as directed.
6) to select your t-shirt style (men’s or women’s) and size please visit the AWLA events calendar and register for the event.
Walk registrants will receive a separate e-mail closer to the walk date with instructions on meeting their team captain, Laura Brown. You will receive your t-shirt on the morning of the December 11 walk. In order to ensure that members receive their AWLA t-shirt, please register for the Walk on the AFSP website by November 14, 2016.
