Join AWLA Member Sarah Medley and Mimi Noshay-Petro for a presentation on the basic steps towards forming a nonprofit 501(c)3 charitable organization. After her son was diagnosed with an ultra-rare genetic disorder, Sarah began the journey to create a foundation to support their special community. Learn about defining your cause, which forms to file and where, mobilizing your community and developing fundraising ideas. We’re delighted to share our experience. Sarah Medley graduated from the University of Arizona College of Law in 2011. She joined the Pima County Mental Health Defender's Office in 2013 where she represents clients going through the Title-36 civil commitment process. She has previously served on the AWLA Southern AZ Steering Committee and State Board. Sarah currently serves as the President of the MSL3 Syndrome Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to raising awareness, supporting research and connecting families affected by the ultra-rare genetic disorder, MSL3 Syndrome. She can be found hiking throughout the Sonoran Desert in her free time.

Melissa Noshay-Petro, or “Mimi” as she is commonly known, is a partner with the Udall Law Firm, Tucson’s oldest firm. Her practice is primarily focused on business law, real estate, and estate planning. Mimi regularly assists clients in forming and operating their for profit and nonprofit businesses. In addition, as a native Tucsonan, Mimi is passionate about making the city a vibrant, welcoming, diverse community, and takes an active role in making that a reality. She regularly teaches seminars to new business owners through a variety of venues and is a board member of a number of local nonprofits.
