About this event

Generative AI is already reshaping legal practice — and Arizona is at the center of it. In August 2025, a federal judge in the District of Arizona sanctioned an attorney after finding that 12 of 19 case citations in a filed brief were fabricated by AI, and Arizona now is amongst the leaders in the nation in AI hallucination court filings. That same year, the Arizona Supreme Court became the first in the nation to write a duty of technology competence directly into its judicial ethics code.

This session gives attendees a practical, ethics-grounded roadmap: a facilitated discussion of how attorneys are actually using AI in their practices today; effective legal prompt writing and research discipline; how to protect confidentiality and privilege when using AI tools; and how to counsel clients on AI governance, records retention, and the discovery exposure that most organizations haven't seen coming. Particular attention is paid throughout to what Arizona's evolving regulatory landscape means for practice right now.

Jim W. Ko serves as Principal Attorney at Ko IP & AI Law PLLC, where he provides strategic legal counsel at the intersection of intellectual property and artificial intelligence. With more than 20 years of experience across in-house, law firm, and nonprofit roles, Jim help clients protect their IP assets, manage risk, and navigate the shifting legal and business landscape around AI and emerging technologies. Jim is also the Founder & Executive Director of The AI Rights Project, an independent nonprofit works to ensure that as AI transforms society, law remains grounded in human-scale judgment and decision-making, creativity, and accountability—and grounded by democratic choice.
