State Bar of Arizona Volunteer Requests:
The
2023 State Bar Convention
is in-person event again and it’s almost here!! The annual convention is the Bar’s biggest event of the year, but we can’t do it without you.
We are currently recruiting volunteers to assist at the Annual State Bar Convention being held June 14-16 at the Westin La Paloma in Tucson, AZ. The convention brochure will soon be available on the Bar's website.
We are looking for volunteers for half-day and full-day shifts
. Half-day shifts are from 7:00 am-12 pm (noon), or from 12 pm (noon)-5:30 pm. All-day shifts begin at 7 am and end at 5:30 pm. Duties may include minimal room set up, checking in attendees at seminars, collecting evaluation forms, or directing attendees to their seminar rooms. Assignments are based on need and will be provided on your arrival on the day(s) you volunteer.
It's an easy, fun way to meet new people, but that’s not all. Convention volunteers will receive a free convention T-shirt to wear while volunteering, lunch on the day they work, and may attend a seminar on the day they volunteer (free of charge) before or after their shift is completed. There will be an orientation meeting closer in time to the Convention.
So that we may be sure we have the right number of volunteers, please click HERE to volunteer. We welcome you to volunteer for more than one shift or on more than one day, but please be sure you can work on the days you sign up for. Because it is so important that we have enough volunteers, please volunteer and choose your shifts by Friday, May 27th.
If you would like additional information or have specific questions, please contact Sarah Schneider at
conventionvolunteer@staff.azbar.org
.
I am reaching out on behalf of the CLE Department at the State Bar of Arizona and asking for your help. The State Bar of Arizona is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment, and I am actively recruiting to expand our pool of speakers to include a broader range of perspectives. I believe that collaborating with AWLA would be invaluable to achieving this goal.
I am writing to request your assistance in distributing a survey to your organization’s membership to help identify potential speakers who would be interested in speaking for the State Bar of Arizona. The survey is to collect information about expertise and areas of interest and will help us identify potential speakers. I would be grateful for your support in distributing the survey among your members and encouraging them to participate.
By volunteering to speak for the State Bar of Arizona, members will have the opportunity to:
Demonstrate subject matter expertise to a statewide (and sometimes national) audience
Receive teaching credit
Add to professional experience
Expand public speaking skills
Contribute to the profession.
The survey can be accessed here:

Children’s Law Center:
The Volunteer Lawyers Program, Children’s Law Center’s greatest need right now is for volunteer attorneys to represent low-income clients, typically grandparents, seeking legal guardianship through the courts to be able to care for their at-risk grandchildren. Parents are often placing children in their grandparents’ care and leaving them without any documents. For the grandparent to enroll the child in school, get medical needs met and often maintain Section 8 housing, they need a court ordered guardianship.
These cases can take 10 to 15 hours of time from start to finish with typically one hearing. They offer free Zoom training and mentoring from other attorneys who have taken these type of cases.
If you would be interested in volunteering for this project or any other Children’s Law Center project, please contact Roni Tropper at
Rtropper@clsaz.org

American Bar Association’s AZ Free Legal Answers:
The State Bar of Arizona and the Arizona Bar Foundation are actively seeking volunteers to answer questions on the American Bar Association’s AZ Free Legal Answers site. As a joint project of the State Bar and Foundation, the Free Legal Answers site is a great way to help answer the public’s legal questions. Like an online legal clinic, users must income qualify (at/under 250% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines) and submit a question into the site. Lawyers registered with the site may choose a question to answer and submit an answer anonymously through the site to the client user. Time spent answering questions on the site counts as pro bono service hours and everything is done remotely, through the site. Pro bono from home!
